sustainable, healthy and delicious meals – every day
1 million
Approximately 250,000 people live in Uppsala Municipality. Each person eats approximately four meals a day. This means that over a million meals are served daily in our municipality. Every single meal matters.
For every meal that is not sustainable , we burden the planet.
For every meal that is not healthy , we contribute to ill health.
For every meal that isn't good , life becomes a little more boring.
Therefore, our vision is that all meals in Uppsala should be sustainable, healthy and tasty – for people, society and the planet.
A local strategy for the future of food
In Sweden, food strategies are primarily designed at the national and regional level . But we see a need for a local strategy, where the future of food is shaped jointly by everyone who is affected – not just by the municipality, producers or distributors, but by everyone who eats, cooks, produces, distributes, recycles and handles food in Uppsala .
In this spirit, a new movement has emerged internationally – food policy councils, inspired by similar initiatives in the USA, Germany and Switzerland. Uppsala Food Council is part of this movement and serves as a platform for collaboration, dialogue and solutions from the grassroots level .
We are a democratic association without financial vested interests , where Uppsala residents get a voice in local food issues. We believe that change starts small and grows – from local initiatives to larger system changes.
